Summer is Over!
I just realized that if you had read my last journal entry, you would know I do not like summer. Yes, I loved being at the lake with wonderful friends and the laughs and “you're kidding me, “remarks for a week. I even swam in the lake and went for my daily long walks. Yes, I love seeing what the garden will produce, and with a frost tonight, I cut huge bouquets of flowers to bring into the house. Yes, I enjoy the people who return to visit us from other places, and we can share a meal and lots of laughs. Yes, the porch is overflowing with plants and is a wonderful spot to sit and read.
Now that the frost has arrived and the garden is basically over, I can remove my mistakes and think of what to do next year. I await the arrival of the bulbs I ordered and will check the metal stakes I placed throughout the garden to confirm their placement. The map I drew is a big help, but since many months have passed, some markers will be missing, and then it becomes a guessing game.
The livestock continue to feed on the ever-growing pastures. We have several pumpkin patches from last year’s pumpkins tossed into the fields for the sheep and goats to eat. Many of these home-grown pumpkins grace our front porch for the holidays.
