All in a Day

Several days ago, we separated two ram lambs and two goat bucks from their mothers. Three of them were ready to be on their own, but the one white buck has been crying for several days. I almost relented and let him have his way, but I didn’t. He has quieted down and pals around with the other buck. This can be just as stressful for the shepherd as it is for the goat.

As of today, we are almost finished hand-digging out the large barn. It has a dirt floor, and the process takes time. Then a layer of lime to help sweeten the smell, and lastly, the hay. We will be ready for winter.

The garden has continued to flourish, with new additions arriving weekly and being quickly planted. An Instagram gardener has inspired me to add grasses to my garden. I did, however, add shrubs years ago, but a few of them have grown too large. Consequently, they will be removed or cut to the ground. Additionally, a fence around the zinnia garden has proven effective in protecting the plants from the ravages of rabbits. This year, the zinnias are wonderful, and the color, purple, is stupendous.

This is what the fence did for me.
